What’s the True Cost of Staying Healthy?

Being healthy or healthier is always in the back of everyone’s mind. Everyone wants to achieve a healthy lifestyle sooner or later. But the problem is, many people assume that a healthy lifestyle is expensive. And they don’t know how much they should spend to make themselves healthier.

That’s why I am writing this article. To help my readers understand that living a healthy lifestyle can be cheap or even cheaper than a less-healthy lifestyle. Keep reading and you’ll understand what I mean by this.

Spending money on healthy food

Let’s start with food first, because diets are one of the biggest factors for your health. If you have a healthy diet your overall health will improve by a lot and you’ll think that why you didn’t start sooner.

So how much more expensive are healthy foods compared to unhealthy or processed foods? You might be thinking right now that the difference is going to be massive. And you can’t be more wrong than that.

According to the research conducted by Harvard School of Public Health or HSPH, the price difference between the healthiest diets and least healthy diets is only $1.50 per day.

That’s right, only $1.50 per day more if you buy the healthiest diet in the grocery store. The cause of this difference is because food policies are focusing on the production of cheap and easy-to-produce food products.

Now, you might also think that $1.50 a day is a lot if you multiply it by 30. But that’s also not true, because a healthy diet is an investment for your body. Imagine if you get sick and have to go to the hospital due to your bad diet. You’ll spend a lot more money than $1.50 per day for sure.

To make it even better, stop dining out too often. So, when you actually need to eat out, you can get a healthy meal instead of getting the cheapest one on the menu. Remember that an unhealthy lifestyle is actually more expensive.

Buy cheap workout equipment for home

Who doesn’t want to exercise at home? You can do it right in your home without interruption or going anywhere and for cheaper too.

Now let’s see some cheap and effective workout equipment that you can buy. First are resistance bands, this item is so popular that I can’t stop seeing anyone talking about it. These elastic bands are one of the cheapest items you can buy.

They’re ideal for strength training and can be used for men and women. So, if you’re living with roommates or a romantic partner, everyone can use the same resistance bands. Using these to get a total-body workout is also easy. You can see a lot of tutorials online. You can buy resistance bands for around $10-20.

The second is a dumbbell. Usually, dumbbells are sold at $1 per pound, and they’re easy to use and effective as well. Another great thing is that dumbbells will last you a lifetime. Buy one or two and that’s it, you don’t need to be more.

Other cheap equipment you can get are kettle bells, a jump rope, a yoga mat, a medicine ball, and a foam roller. The most expensive one is probably a medicine ball, which is usually sold at $25 or more.

Move a lot

Getting healthier can’t be simpler than this. Many people are living a sedentary lifestyle and don’t move a lot. There are many factors why people are like this, and if you’re the same then it’s time to fix it.

You don’t have to force yourself to work out or go to the gym. What you need to do is move a lot. First, let’s give you some motivation to go outside and take a walk. That motivation is a pair of good walking shoes. The type of shoes that make you want to walk a lot.

Don’t worry, they’re not as expensive as you might think. I can find many great shoes for around $50 on Amazon. These shoes are available in different shapes and colors. Pick whatever pair of shoes that you like and get moving.

It’s much cheaper than you think

While it’s true that being healthy is priceless and you shouldn’t cheap out on your health but being healthy isn’t expensive at all. And you know what they said, prevention is better (and cheaper) than cure.
